After working with Curve Theatre to produce 3 music videos for the new Beautiful – The Carole King Musical we were very excited to be back in the theatre to create a new TV Advert and production trailers for the show.
Filmed on stage at Curve Theatre – Leicester, before the show started its UK tour, the show follows the story of Carole King from her humble beginnings to becoming a songwriter before hitting it big as a solo artist with the release of her masterful Tapestry album. The show is full of hits including Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow, Up on the Roof, Beautiful, I Feel the Earth Move and You’ve Got a friend.
We had one day to film the TV Advert along with a 30 and 60-second production trailer for the show. Jordan Dean directed the shoot, working closely with the tech team at the theatre, the film crew, and the actors to produce a high-energy and visually impressive advert and trailer. We had three RED cameras at our disposal for the shoot, each of which was set up in a different configuration so we could quickly switch between equipment to achieve the shots and coverage Jordan had planned. One camera was on a crane which was operated by Chris Hood, we also had a Steadicam set up operated by the always impressive Mbili Munthali, and the third camera was on sticks with Duncan MacLeod operating. We also had Francesca Costa as 1st AC pulling focus and Dan Flanders who was Producer on our side of the shoot making sure the day ran smoothly.
A lot of pre-production went into this project to ensure everyone was agreed on the core vision for the advert and trailers and that the day would be organised correctly as time would be tight on the day as the cast had a performance in the evening. Pre-production was run by Jordan who went to see the show to design a shot list that would accurately portray the energy and essence of the show in the advert and trailers, he then worked alongside Dressing Room 5 to ensure the storyboard was achievable and would entice viewers to go and see the show.
We are incredibly proud of the final advert and trailers and believe it is one of the more visually impressive projects we have delivered to date.
Beautiful – The Carole King Musical is touring across the UK from March until November 2022.
