Celebrating a Decade of Laughter: Crosscut Media’s 10-Year Partnership with the Leicester Comedy Festival

Founded in 1994, the Leicester Comedy Festival is the biggest comedy festival in Europe.
For the past decade, Crosscut Media has had the privilege of capturing the heart and soul of the Leicester Comedy Festival. As the festival has grown into one of the UK’s most renowned celebrations of comedy, we’ve been right there, producing high-quality photo and video content that showcases the magic of the event.

From filming headline acts and emerging comedians to producing archival content that preserves the festival’s rich history, our journey with Leicester Comedy Festival has been filled with laughter, creativity, and unforgettable moments. Each year, our team has worked tirelessly behind the scenes, covering the festival’s biggest highlights, from the UK Pun Championships to the stand-up debuts of fresh comedic talent.

2 years ago we co produced their 30th anniversary documentary, directed by Duncan MacLeod, Cinematography by Dan Flanders and Francesca Costa and edited by Francesca Costa. The documentary is presented by Arthur Smith, and aims to discover the answer to ‘What is the Leicester Comedy Festival?’. Through interviewing festival founders and comedians, all of whom have a connection to Leicester Comedy Festival.

The Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year event is held annually at the festival and is one of the most prestigious prizes on the comedy circuit. We enjoy covering the event each year at the festival as it sees a number of up-and-coming comedians performing short sets before one of them is crowned the winner at the end of the night.

Previous winners of the award include Johnny Vegas, Seann Walsh, Josh Widdicombe, Alasdair Beckett-King and Romesh Ranganathan.

We have also had the opportunity to work and collaborate with the students from DeMontfort University’s Photography and Video course. 2023’s Leicester Comedy Festival Student of the Year Cezara Buburuzanu expressed “Being part of something so big felt very special to me and it was a very satisfying experience.”

Looking back over the past ten years, we’re incredibly proud of the role we’ve played in documenting this incredible festival. From our first year capturing highlights to now producing a comprehensive visual archive of the event’s evolution, it has been an honour to work alongside the festival team and countless comedians who bring joy to audiences year after year.

We’d like to thank Leicester Comedy Festival for trusting us with this important role and look forward to many more years of partnership. Here’s to another decade of laughter, creativity, and storytelling!
