We have worked with De Montfort University on a number of projects at Crosscut Media, and this particular project was for their Disability Advice and Support department (DAS). They want to encourage their students to disclose their disabilities, mental health or medical conditions, so that they can get the support they need from the very start. We filmed a collection of stories with the DAS team, as well as from the students that they support. It was so rewarding being able to capture their inspiring stories on film.
The team at DMU sent us a video that they liked due to it being visually stimulating and less ‘corporate talking head-like’. We agreed that it worked really well, and so used this as our inspiration when working on the concept. We produced the stories on a black backdrop, using creative lighting to bring out each student. This allowed us to use the black space around each student to insert typography designed to reiterate their words.
DAS approached us after realising that video marketing via social media was a great way to engage with students and prospective students who may be reluctant to come forward at first. Of course, we agreed and thoroughly enjoyed creating this series of videos with them.
