After 19 days, 847 shows and 50,820 minutes of comedy, Leicester Comedy Festival 2019 has finished! The festival took place between the 6th – 24th of February and we had the pleasure (for the 4th year in a row), to be filming all of the festival’s video content, photographing key events and running their social media channels.
This year’s festival was it’s biggest yet, allowing us to work with such comedians as; Johnny Vegas, Romesh Ranganathan, Josh Widdicombe, Jo Brand, Tom Allen, Seann Walsh, Suzi Ruffell, Henning Wehn, Jason Manford and Dave Gorman. We also filmed some of the festival’s unique shows, such as the UK Pun Championships, Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year, Silver Stand Up and An Interview with Jo Brand.
As always with the festival, alongside capturing comedians on stage, recording shows for archive and sending highlights packages out to press we also created some fun and silly content for the festival’s social media channels. Our fun content included ‘2 Truths 1 Lie‘, ‘Speech Jammer‘, ‘The Blindfold Challenge‘ and to round off the festival ‘Comedian Job Swap‘, where we got comedians to run parts of the festival. This included Jason Byrne giving out programs, Jo Brand on the Curve’s lighting desk and Johnny Vegas cleaning a urinal. With Leicester Comedy Festival launching the first UK Kids Comedy Festival, we created content for the kids comedy festival, such as ‘Kids Draw Romesh‘ and ‘Kids Joke Spot‘.
This year we enlisted the support of De Montfort University, with us taking on 3rd years from the Photo and Video course. We managed the team of 6 students, organising them to attend shows throughout Leicester to photograph and film comedians on stage. This has helped them gain professional practice, and helped us cover more of Leicester Comedy Festival than ever before. We were impressed by their professionalism and quality of work, so a massive thank you to; Gianluca Misso, Natasha James, Olivia Benner, Anna Valente, Leah-Marie Thompson and Izzy Churm.
We’d like to thank all of the team at Big Difference Company who have supported us continually throughout this festival; Underground Photography for capturing amazing photographs at the UK Pun Championships and Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year; and Sally Hossack the leader of the Photo and Video course at De Montfort University.
Leicester Comedy Festival is Europes oldest running comedy festival, and here at Crosscut Media we’re massively proud to be a part of it.
We can’t wait until the 5th-23rd of February 2020!
