This time of year is always exciting working with Curve on their Christmas performance, this year being ‘My Fair Lady’ starring Molly Lynch! The show is directed by Nikolai Foster, with musical director George Dyer and choreographer Jo Goodwin.

Music Video and Photoshoot

To promote the show we first worked together to create a music video for the track  ‘I could Have Danced All Night’. This involved using one of the rehearsal spaces, and creating a circle of golden spotlights all pointing towards Molly in the centre. Using our steadicam, we then tracked Molly whilst she performed and turned on the spot. To showcase the performance being held at Curve, we used a drone to follow Molly running through the foyer and mezzanine of the building.

Rehearsal Trailer

We had fun producing the rehearsal trailer, where we used a mixture of steadicam, sticks and drone to capture the energy of the room. Our team interviewed members of the cast during their rehearsal too, to give the audience a sneak peak into the process and share some of their highlights so far. We ensured the edit was fast paced and therefore suitable for use as paid content on social media.

TV Spot

For the TV spot, Fran and Nikolai made notes throughout the script of moments that would best both show off the production and give the audience a glimpse of some of the characters and set. This meant that when it came to the shoot, Fran would direct us to different scenes and ask the actors to perform segments to feature in the TV ad. For this shoot we used our pole cam operated by Duncan, to get those overhead, long sweeping shots. However, for the more dynamic shots we had Luke Gale from Cine Flow UK FPV drone operating. This allowed us to capture the tight moments of the cast’s choreography and set changes. Our steadicam operator Mbili Munthali worked closely with the actors on stage, following their choreography, and at moments found himself right in the centre of the action to capture really intimate shots with the cast.

Vox Pops

We also filmed and edited vox pops for ‘My Fair Lady’ where we used wireless mics, handheld camera and camera mounted LED light to make it easier to mingle with the audience members. For the edit we also included footage captured from the preview night of the standing ovation at the end of the show, as well as review graphics to create a well rounded and effective piece of marketing material.
