The importance of music and sound design

Today we’re delving into one of my favourite topics – the importance of music and sound design. You will not believe the difference a well selected music track can make to a piece of video content. Using music and sound design well can manipulate the viewer to feel emotions they just wouldn’t feel if the video was muted or used just dialogue. 

There’s no better way to showcase this than to give an example. Take this short scene from ‘Dead Air’ a short film produced by our sister company, Fishbulb Films. By simply changing the music and sound design, we can easily change the genre of the piece. First up we have horror….

Now, the exact same scene, we have a cheesy staff induction video…. 

And finally, a heart-wrenching post breakup scene….

This is why music and sound effects are so important when producing video content. Use the wrong sound and suddenly your video takes on a whole new meaning.
