Using character animation to avoid issues with release

Sometimes, for whatever reason, it may prove difficult to gain the photographic or video release of subjects for an interview. In the past, to work around this challenge we have used animation to characterise that person, ensuring that their anonymity is retained but the viewer can still watch a virtual person talking. The process involves first interviewing the person with an audio recorder, in exactly the same way as a conventional video interview. We then transcribe the audio and write a script from it. This script is then recorded by a new person, or a professional voice actor. Using this recording, our animator can then produce a character animation based upon the person’s answers in real life. The result is a talking, moving, animated representation of a person who’s anonymity is retained and an engaging, animated video.
