Where is Home? – Documentary

Over the past few months, we have been working closely with Inspirate to create a documentary that poses the question ‘Where is Home?’ The documentary is framed around the upcoming anniversaries of the expulsion of Ugandan-Asians from Uganda by Idi Amin in 1972 and the partition of India which divided India into two independent dominions: India and Pakistan in 1947.

We are thrilled to be working with Inspirate who are a diverse-led organisation that has produced a plethora of arts festivals and events, delivering culturally dynamic experiences to audiences from across the country. We connect people from all walks of life with inspiring creative experiences – our aim is to ambitiously pioneer a new and inclusive approach to culture, where the ‘door is open to all’.

The documentary looks at topics such as the British Empire, migration, the concept of home, and post-war Britain by using a mixture of archive footage and interviews with artists living and working in the UK. One of our passions at Crosscut is narrative storytelling and working within the parameters of documentary we have found exciting ways to bring multiple people’s story’s together to support the overarching themes that this documentary is trying to explore.

We have travelled across the UK to film the interviews that appear in the documentary and have been welcomed by the artists into their homes and studios. This has allowed us to gain a greater understanding of each artist’s work and how their concept of home and heritage has shaped their work throughout the years.

We have filmed the documentary using cinema cameras, in particular our RED Mysterium Epic X with Samyang cine prime lenses.
