Video may be an incredibly engaging medium, but when it’s live, it’s on a whole new level. So what makes live streaming so engaging? It’s all about psychology and FOMO – the fear of missing out. It’s the same reason that when you see a film on TV, you’re more likely to sit and watch it despite having it on DVD. Live streams are exactly that – Live! Watch it now, or risk never seeing it ever again. It gives people a feeling of urgency to watch it.
Once you have viewers on board, the ability for them to interact with other viewers, or even what’s happening on screen makes the perfect recipe for solid engagement. Allow people to tweet using a hashtag and bring those tweets up on screen. Directly address people in the comments. Allow people to send their own content to be showcased on the stream. All of these things work together to create a feeling of exclusivity and value for the viewer unlike any other medium. Use it well, and you’re on to a winner!
Here at Crosscut we produce a multitude of live streams across the UK for the likes of theatres, conferences, festivals and other live events. Get in touch today to find out more.
