Working with Curve Theatre, in Leicester, is always exciting, and we are happy to be a part of the Christmas production of Wizard of Oz.
The first project that we worked on was the music video promo for ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’. It was based around the streets of Leicester, introducing Dorothy (played by Georgina Onourah) as if she’s arrived ready to perform the show. It’s always great working with Nikolai, the artistic director at Curve, and it was great to work collaboratively on this project, helping to bring Dorothy’s story to life. Crosscut’s team were also joined by Jordan Dean as director, Paul Trunkfield as camera op and Luke Gale as drone op. We’re always keen to bring in the most talented practitioners around to help us develop our productions!
There were a few different elements of the shoot, with us initially starting in Curve’s recording studio, then wandering the streets of Leicester with our drone and steadicam. In the studio, we used our gimbal system, and a few different cameras to capture various angles around the space where ‘Dorothy’ was recording the track ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’. To capture the external shots, Dan was operating the Digitalfoto Thanos Pro II with the Zhyiun Crane 3s, following ‘Dorothy’ through key landmarks of Leicester Town Centre. This equipment meant that Dorothy’s journey was captured steadily and without interruption. Luke was then also operating the DJI Mini 3 Pro on a sub 250g drone, to capture the large swooping shots of Georgina (Dorothy) seeing Leicester for the first time. Because of the public space we were in, Luke had to be cautious of both the surrounding buildings and the pedestrians passing by. These great soaring birds eye view shots, help to navigate Dorothy’s journey through the town centre, finding her way to Curve Theatre.
