We were really excited to be asked to work with the creative team from Simple 8 Theatre Productions on their subsidised musical production of Moby Dick!

We were commissioned by EMG to capture some behind the scene elements, specifically the process behind the show’s creative captioning!

We recently had the pleasure of working with Jamie Wilson Productions for the UK tour of ‘An Officer and a Gentleman’, at Alhambra Theatre in Bradford.

We volunteered our time and partnered with Curve Theatre to deliver a very special on demand version of their Christmas show for the children and families who use Rainbows Hospice.

Dewynters, in association with Sadlers Wells and Curve Theatre, commissioned us to produce various pieces of content to promote the tour of 42nd Street.

Wizard of Oz – Green Screen Shoot

At Crosscut, we’re used to working with theatres in a variety of roles. We quite often produce promotional material for the shows, and content for online. This, however, was one of the first times that we actually worked collaboratively with the design team of a show to create assets that are going to be used as part of the production.
As such, it’s a really exciting thing for us as a company to be doing! We were commissioned by video designer Douglas O’Connell to work with him to create these assets for the production.

The show involves a lot of projection on stage, so these assets helped to tell the story of The Wizard of Oz – alongside the cast and the rest of the set design. We worked closely with both the director of the show, Nikolai Foster and Douglas throughout the process.

The shoot involved working with a lot of the cast from The Wizard of Oz, and shooting them in front of a large green screen; which we built inside one of the rehearsal rooms inside of the theatre. All of the footage was then taken by Douglas to be composited with CGI elements, to create lots of assets and projections which were used as part of the show!

Once the show had opened in Leicester, it transferred to the West End which involved some changes in the cast. As such, it was necessary to reshoot some of these elements with the new cast and so we provided the same service again in London at Lanterns Studio Theatre.
